In 2005 Torella dei Lombardi has commissioned at Mr.Giovanni Di Nenna a monument to honor the victims and dispersed the Second World War to keep alive the memory of the past, at the same time postpone a message of hope, peace and a better future.
The figures appeared from embossed bronze block and are divided into different levels, starting from the bottom, you can see clearly two women arranged in the foreground, two peasant in work clothes, with larger size shoes, which despite the fatigue, are still busy at work, a commitment to the sieve, the other is preparing the meal for the younger generation, for many children remained at home.
These women are the heroines of everyday life, replace their men called to the front in the work and labors, they are the stability of the family, represent the present, normality, life and its continuity. In the foreground it is also a child, leaning on the sill of a window and holds in his hands a dove, together form the allegory of the future of the new generations. Significantly, the soldier who appears standing, more defined, in stretch out his arm to the little turns into an olive branch, symbol of brotherhood and peace so long desired, once harvested, the branch will be donated to all humanity . The work suggests that those soldiers, meaning both those who died and those who have returned, new generations have learned the value of peace, respect and love.
In the background appear more soldiers, some figures are more visible, others more uncertain, symbolizing the first veterans, the latter the fallen and missing, of which often not even the bodies are returned to their homeland. All figures are included in an arc, which is the portal of a house, which refers to the expectation of women during World War II who tended always an ear to hear noises coming from the street, which could be known steps, unexpected returns.
In this case the perspective view is upside down, according to the artist’s poetic idea, the soldiers have already returned home, in fact they have never strayed from it, since the memory of those young people is always alive in the hearts of family members.
Woman maximizes your returns and those who remained life, only certainty in this world dominated by barbarism and violence, the message to be transmitted again is to understand the mistakes of the past and design a better world.
A small reproduction of the work is preserved in the museum-antiquarium the castle.
